Not too long ago there was this news announcement that the company Crystal Dynamics who use to be under Square Enix is now owned by Swedish video game and media holding company Embracer Group. They acquired the catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from Square Enix Holdings for $300 million. I'm not sure who are the people involve with this company but according from my research they seem to be the parent company of Nordic Games Licensing who has Gunfire Games as a subsidiary. I've heard of that company before because they were involve in bringing back the Darksiders game series. If these companies are now part of each other then imagine the possibilities! I've always dreamed of older IPs like the Legacy of Kain series being brough back to next gen systems with modern graphics! I also imagine a new Darksiders game to be release again! This company is no joke because their acquisition also includes companies who made games like Little Nightmares II, Goat Simulator, Destroy All Humans!, TimeSplitters, Timecop, Darksiders, Saints Row, Duke Nukem, Borderlands, Valheim, Killing Floor, Deus Ex, and Tomb Raider. Not only that but they also own Dark Horse Comics who are known for the Hellboy franchise! As of 2021 they own more than 76 internal studios in over 45 countries in Europe and the Americas. They just recently acquired Crystal Dynamics! What do you guys think? Will this benefit these game companies? I hope that they release more games and respect the IPs in their possession. As someone who likes game preservasion and also bringing back older IPs to life I hope they do what the fans want.
