I was doing some looking around on the interwebs again when I stumbled on some videos and articles talking about this new upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. From what I've seen they're images and they look interesting. I thought that there was a trailer already out but most of the trailer videos I've seen are fake and fanmade stuff basically used as clickbait by attention seekers. lol I think that this new Mortal Kombat with a new cast might take the Mortal Kombat movieverse in a different direction compared to previous Mortal Kombat movies if done right. Don't get me wrong I loved the first Mortal Kombat movie starring Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, Christopher Lambert as Raiden, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, etc. That movie has some pretty memorable fight scenes and awesome soundtrack like the Liu Kang vs Reptile and Johnny Cage vs Scorpion fight! Mortal Kombat Annihilation despite being super bad and cheesy had some good fights as well like the Cyrax and Smoke fight. I don't know maybe I just love cyborg ninjas too much! haha The new images I've seen shows a new fresh cast that I'm not really familiar with but you know what? I'm willing to give this movie a chance. If done right they could have a hit. All they need to do is give a very important plot and story that connects all the characters with good character development. They also need a good reason for fighting and not because of the fatalities and violence. I'm guessing everyone else will once again team up to fight against Shang Tsung and his henchmen like Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Goro maybe. If they do this right they can do a sequels with Shao Khan, Kintaro, Motaro, Shinnok, Quan Chi, Moloch, Kronika and Cetrion as new final bosses for the next movies. They could go deeper than that but this is Mortal Kombat that we are talking about which is known for its fighting gameplay accompanied by gruesome violence, blood, dismemberment, gore and random goofiness like friendships besides fatalities and brutalities. The problem with trying to include fatalities in this movie is that they won't be able to have sequels if they kill off characters one by one. Will the fatalities kill them permanently or will they come back for the sequels? lol How does that work in the Mortal Kombat universe if each game that comes out is separate and different from previous once? Is each game and movie a different universe from the previous game that's why they keep coming back to life after each fatality? See it's hard to make sense of Mortal Kombat despite each character having a story and past to explore but then ends up getting torn apart into pieces, have their guts pulled out or impaled on spikes! I hope people understand that what I'm trying to do is make sense of all of this! The reason is that if characters can just come back from the dead every single time like Kenny from South Park then it becomes a joke. There is no real consequence and nothing is at stake because they can just keep coming back to life after every fatality and I won't be as invested to care what happens to the character. I'm already gonna know that they're gonna come back from the dead anyway so why should I care what happens to them! So putting fatalities and not putting fatalities both have their disadvantages but fans won't care as along as they get their fan service and brutal violence with Scorpion being the main guy. This new upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is being directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan (he's the dude who directed Aquaman, the Saw movies, the Conjuring movies, Furious 7, etc. so he's got some talent all over the place in different genres), Todd Garner and E. Bennett Walsh. Here's the synopsis by Warner Bros. Pictures. "MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?" This seems like an interesting premise but I would rather have a Street Fighter VS Mortal Kombat crossover already! These two fighting games are the granddaddy of all fighting games and basically what made the fighting game genre popular in the first place! If they wait too long this dream of mine might never happen at all in my lifetime while I'm still alive and kicking! Sigh. Oh, well. From what I've read it seems this new MMA fighter Cole is the main protagonist and everyone else are just side characters? That is kinda sucky. The older movies had Liu Kang as the chosen one but not this time. I hope that the movie isn't cheesy though like Dragon Ball Evolution, King of Fighters Live Action or that crappy Legend of Chun-Li movie. Oh, man those movies are just bad and cheesy cheese fest! Even that Dead or Alive movie was kinda meh but I do like the fan service though. lol No one remembers those movies that's why my faith and hope in game to movie adaptation is very small. Although that Sonic The Hedgehog movie was good and fun so I have hope that the game to movie adaptations continue to be good because of that. Let's get back to Mortal Kombat. I want them to go on a route very similar to kinda how the Street Fighter Assassin's Fist was done in tone, seriousness and depth. They can also throw in some Avengers style team up mix with the seriousness of Captain America Winter Soldier! If they put in fight scenes similar to that movie when they go the serious route then it might be good. Also please no shaky camera in my fight scenes! Those are horrible style of film making! They need to hire the guys who did the camera work for John Wick and the fight choreographers who did The Raid Redemption movies or hire Yuen Woo-ping (he choreograph the fight scenes in the Matrix movies, Kill Bill movies, Kung Fu Hustle, Danny the Dog aka Unleashed, Man of Tai Chi, IP Man 4 The Finale, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Lethal Weapon 4, etc.) for their fight choreography! Hong Kong martial arts choreography is the best in the world but now thanks to movies like Ong Bak's Tony Jaa, The Raid Redemption Iko Uwaais and Ninjas Scott Adkins the talent has expanded to other places and countries outside Hong Kong like Thailand and Indonesia. The action movies that these guys did is how fight scenes and fight choreography should be done! Maybe they can also do it in the style of the Warrior series or that Wu Assassin one. Those were pretty good! As long as the fight scenes are done well whether it be one on one or fighting a group or army don't do shaky cam! I REPEAT DO NO DO SHAKY CAM! The cam needs to be wide shot and steady or still only changing angles when edited and not moving or shaking the camera around like in the style of found footage which is not good when it comes to fight scenes. It's okay with horror or war movies with lots of explosion and bullets flying around but not fight scenes! Check out below for some of the images on the upcoming movie! Also I keep getting this funny thing from people saying that Jax in this movie looks like Steve Harvey because of the mustache and the bald head! lmao Also here's the cast for the upcoming 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.
